Context:

One of the leaders in the home automation sector in France bought a start-up specializing in connected objects. The company had very strong growth, with production volumes doubling every year. The speed of growth needed to factor in the long-term visibility (lead-times of up to 52 weeks) imposed by electronic component suppliers.

So, the challenge was to structure the start-up’s Purchasing Department in order to secure its supplies, better anticipate risks and limit any additional costs related to emergency management.

Mes actions

  • Creating monitoring tools to identify short-, medium- and long-term risks.
  • Weekly monitoring of key suppliers to secure supplies.
  • Identifying and approving alternative sources for as many electronic components as possible, starting with the most critical components.
  • Establishing contracts with key suppliers, which had not been in place until then.
  • Conducting a complete review of the system for communicating firm and forecast volumes, with a tunnel of possible variations in volumes widening over time.
  • Setting up safety stocks of finished and semi-finished products and components at different stages of the supply chain.
  • Establishing a responsibility matrix that defines the roles and responsibilities of the different players involved in managing supplies, notably as regards potential supply chain crises.

  • Five-fold reduction of the number of critical components with one-month visibility.
  • Significant reduction in costs related to emergency procurement of electronic components.
  • Implementation of clear procedures for managing supply-chain crises and tools for monitoring purchasing performance.

My background:

I graduated from the SKEMA Business School. Before joining Albert & Co, I worked in industrial purchasing for 5 years, in the automotive, energy and consumer goods sectors.
I joined Albert & Co in 2017 as a consultant in order to expand and diversify my professional experience, to discover new sectors and use the skills I had acquired in large organizations to help smaller, less structured organizations.
I then moved up the ranks in the company, holding the positions of Business Manager, Regional Manager, Operations Director, before being appointed Deputy CEO.
